In July, we bought plant four of Westbrook’s nursery in the Niagara Region, or as we like to call it - The Emerald Horseshoe.
The nursery is a 200,000-square-foot greenhouse that’ll give us another 160,000 square feet to produce as much as four acres of sun-grown, craft cannabis. To give you some perspective, the place is the size of 21 hockey rinks at Kingston’s K-Rock Centre.
The site is ideal for growing cannabis and already has a lot of technology in place. However, we have our work cut out in order to bring the greenhouse up to Health Canada’s standards. Security is, of course, very important, and will include a level-ten vault and about 250 cameras.
We’re keeping as many of the existing staff as we can because they know how to operate the greenhouse best and we want to learn from them. To start, we’ll have about 100 full-time employees. We then aim to hire another 100, because we plan to double the size of the site.
Orchids are still growing in the greenhouse. Stay tuned - we plan to cover the transformation with a series of posts.
